Healthy Communities Forest of Dean
We work with children, young people and families across FOD of all ages and abilities to encourage them into a more active habit for life. We have a range of holiday activities including Xplorer and Family Fun Days. As well as a variety of 7-19 years activity programmes; learn to swim opportunities; inclusive youth programmes and much more.
Of the 85,957 people living in the Forest of Dean, 22% of the population are aged 0-19 years old which equates to 18,910 young people. Of these, 710 young people aged 16-18 years old in FoD (3.6%) are not in education, employment, or training. With rural communities and links to local schools, we will be developing a wide range of innovative programmes to encourage young people across the Forest to be more active.
We offer Holiday Clubs during the school holidays with activities including football, swimming, racket sports and more depending on the site you choose. All activities are fully supervised by our fully trained and qualified staff who will ensure all the children have a fun and active day in a safe and caring environment. A fun and free family activity held in local parks similar to a treasure hunt. All you need to do is find the registration desk, pick up your map and set off to find the hidden clue. Lots of exciting themes to Xplorer such as space, animals, dinosaurs, sports, inventions and much more. Events are run through school holidays and our current locations include, Angus Buchanan Grounds in Coleford, Bathurst Park in Lydney, Ruspidge Playground in Cinderford and Newent Lake.
Football Tots is a great way for young children to learn football skills in a fun environment. Sessions take place every Thursday from 5-6pm at Freedom Leisure Cinderford and it is just £2 per child! Please call Cinderford for more information.
