Massachusetts has over $3.4 billion in unclaimed property and some of it could be yours.
Unclaimed property includes forgotten savings and checking accounts, un-cashed checks, insurance policy proceeds, stocks, dividends and the contents of unattended safe deposit boxes, according to the Unclaimed Property Division.
But many people don’t know they have unclaimed property.
“It is our goal to help return these funds to the rightful owners,” Massachusetts State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg said in a statement.
She added that “claiming property is fast, easy, and free.”
See below for more on how to claim your property.
Once you’ve found your unclaimed property, it can be claimed by clicking the “claim” button FindMassMoney.com or by working with someone by calling 888-344-MASS (6277). The website also gives an option to see the status of your claim.
