The proposed budget for 2023 includes a 9 per cent reduction, which works out to a savings of about 60 dollars for the owner of a 100,000 dollar home.
Finance Director Ryan Berger says the 80 million dollar budget is also balanced.
“That balancing was done through new revenues, smart financial recommendations by the budgeting committee, and the use of fund balances.”
That helpful new revenue includes 27 million from ARPA, the American Rescue Plan Act, and rising sales tax receipts.
Another key part of the budget process this year is that is that for the first time Rock Island County has a Finance Director. Berger was first hired last year to manage the county’s ARPA funds.
Final approval by the county board for the new budget is expected at its November 22nd meeting, and the county’s new fiscal year begins December lst.
