Seth McClarey said the two men came to their door to ask his partner a favor. During that discussion, he said things escalated. When he heard yelling, he went to check on his partner.
“I wanted to make sure Ryan was OK, see what was going on, and that’s when I heard them start yelling the derogatory statements for gay people at us, and that’s when I said, ‘Please stay off of our property, don’t come back on our property,’” McClarey said.
From there, McClarey said things escalated. He said one of the men hit him. McClarey said he got out his phone and took the man’s photo. When the man allegedly noticed that McClarey had taken his photo, he said the man started punching him again, pushing him to the ground and left him with bruises and scrapes on his body and head. McClarey said he needed stitches on his eye.
McClarey said the man was yelling homophobic slurs at him.
McClarey and his partner Ryan Yesenchak said they did not expect the altercation to escalate so quickly.
“He swatted my phone down, and then he started to really beat me up, knocked me over, and just kept beating me senseless. It was very, very, very scary,” McClarey said.
Zone 1 police officers responded to the alleged assault, and said the investigation is ongoing. McClarey intends to press hate crime charges.
Anyone with information is asked to call Pittsburgh police.
