A NUMBER of plans for levelling up the borough of Barrow have been put forward.
The proposals would see a cycle storage facility created at the boathouse at Barrow Park and a feasibility study and concept designs produced for Dalton Leisure Centre.
The money for the projects is to come from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, part of the Government’s levelling up agenda.
Borough councillor Sam Ronson, who represents Dalton North, welcomed the input of £16,000 to the town’s leisure centre.
He said: “Hopefully it can help the centre to continue providing its facilities to the town for years to come.

“The funding is part of a larger sum that is being directed towards Dalton which we’re aiming to use to improve the public realm through some minor town centre improvements.”
A report on the proposals, authored by Helen Houston, the borough council’s head of regeneration and planning policy, was produced ahead of a meeting of the council’s executive committee on Wednesday.
“The council are awaiting approval from the Government of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund investment plan,” says the report.
“If approved, the council will be required to enter into a grant funding agreement with the Government, the content and implications of which are unknown at this stage.”
The ‘year one’ projects set out below would be delivered by March 31 of next year – prior to the creation of two new unitary authorities in Cumbria.
