Lottery and Gaming Tax Credits
Each year, homeowners can claim a lottery tax credit on the first installment of their property tax bill. These credits are made available through the revenues from the state lottery, pari-mutuel on-track betting, and bingo. To be eligible for lottery tax credits in 2022, you must have owned and resided in your home on January 1, 2022. This residence also must be where you live for more than six months of the year. Vacation homes, rental homes, businesses, and bare land do not qualify for this credit. If you purchased your home after January 1, 2022, there are a limited number of circumstances that will allow you to receive the credit this year. Visit www.revenue.wi.gov for more information and forms.
First Dollar Credit
Under state law, each real property with improvements is eligible for the First Dollar Credit. The First Dollar Credit will appear on tax bills. No action is required by citizens to receive the First Credit. The First Credit is split between the two installment payments available to residents if they choose to pay their tax bill in two installments.
