A Minnesota witness near Starbuck reported watching a rectangular-shaped object nearly a half-block long floating silently about 500 yards away at about 10 p.m. on August 19, 2022, according to testimony from the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC).
“My family and I were camping in a rental cabin at Glacial Lakes State Park near the town of Starbuck,” the reporting witness stated. “We were just sitting around the fire and I looked up through the trees and I saw what I thought at first was a bar of light. I pointed up and I said, ‘What is what is that?’
“We moved to a clearing and looked up and saw a very bright, white light, one-quarter to one-half block long moving extremely slowly – as if it was floating. Was no more than 500 yards from us. And rectangular in shape and moving west to east. The entire sighting lasted no more than three minutes. As we watched it, it slowly started to fade, front to rear. It was a clear night with no clouds.
“The object was absolutely silent with no wake whatsoever. I want it understood this was not Starlink. This object was close to us – almost overhead.
“We only saw the object in profile. We did not get to see a bottom or a top. It looked like if you took a bunch of Japanese lanterns and connected them together in a rectangular shape and extended it for a very long distance, that's pretty close to what you're going to see with this object. The rectangular shape was segmented. It was segmented perhaps eight to10 segments altogether.”
The object then began to fade away.
“There was no sound at all and it left no wake. We didn't feel any different. It didn't seem to bother us, however, it did fade away as if it knew somebody had seen it.
“The fade took place rather slowly from the front of the object to the back. It looked kind of like it would have moved into a large, thick cloud bank but it was a very clear night. The fading took 15 seconds, maybe 30. Kind of like somebody was dimming it with a dimmer switch. And it was gone.
“We had cabin neighbors and I was asking them if they saw it as well. They did but they weren't very interested in talking about it. On Sunday when we were leaving the state park, I stopped at the office and inquired if anybody else had reported seeing a UFO.
“The young lady said that nobody had and she would take my report. Of course, it was a rather short, cursory report. She kept saying Starlink, Starlink. But I knew it wasn't Starlink. I know what Starlink looks like.
“So instead of taking up more of her precious time, I'm reporting it here. This was the strangest thing I've ever seen in my life. I'm 65 years old."

Rectangular Shape
While the rectangular shape does not seem very aerodynamic and is reported less often than the classic disc and triangle, it is one of the common shapes UFO reports offer to choose from, according to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
In my book, UFO Cases of Interest: 2019 Edition, I reported on 15 cases of rectangle UFOs and 12 cases in my 2018 edition.
The following is one case from California that I covered.
Witness reports rectangle UFO
A California witness at Sacramento reported watching a rectangle-shaped object hovering over nearby buildings, according to testimony in Case 90347 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The witness was driving to get food at 12:30 a.m. on February 21, 2018.
“I was driving down the road when out of nowhere I see this big craft appear out of my top left field of view,” the witness stated.“I didn't have time to think. I was almost dumbfounded at what I was looking at. The craft appeared from out of thin air and hovered at this spot above the buildings about 300feet away or so.”
The witness described the object.
“It had two blue lights that were parallel to each other. The blue lights followed from the front of the craft to the back and were on the sides of it. They were very bright, and I saw this craft the second it appeared. I could make out some sharp features of the craft, but it was like it had some form to it, and at the same time was almost transparent. Then before I could process what had happened, it shot off in a straight line and immediately disappeared as it set into motion. I still can't believe what I just saw. I had to Google report a UFO and sure enough, I found this place. I'm really struggling to make sense of this. I hope you guys can use this information and maybe provide me with some information of your own if you have some. I'll try and draw a sketch later.”
California MUFON Field Investigator Valerie Benko closed this case as an Unknown Aerial Vehicle.
“The witness discussed the general area where he saw the craft and explained he was headed to Jack in the Box for food,” Benko stated in her report. “The witness did state if he had not noticed the blue lights on the side of the craft, he probably would not even have noticed it. The witness was very shaken up over this experience. He explained they teach you in school this stuff is not real. If you talk about UFOs people will label you as crazy.”
